When Detachment Serves a Purpose

You can read this today, or you can listen to this episode of the Tim Ferriss show. Both will serve you well, much like our short holiday did Christina and I a few weeks back.

We travelled to the Okanagan (about a 4 hour drive) for a friend’s wedding and tacked on a few days before and after to enjoy ourselves in the sunshine for a while. I would rate this short trip very highly on the enjoyment scale, and not just because the wedding a was a bunch of fun.

What leaving for a few days allowed me to do was detach from the routine for a spell. It’s not that the routine was mundane or monotonous or displeasing or hectic or even exhausting. It’s just that I had been in it for quite some time.

In the days before our brief getaway, I felt myself growing in excitement and I’ll tell you why. It wasn’t because I was excited to visit friends and family or because I could sleep in a little.
