36. Master the Mundane

How Minor Changes Lead to Major Achievement

I once had a client who wanted to do chin ups. That was the goal, and it was a big goal considering the starting point. It was going to take some serious effort and dedication to being consistent. Without the story, I’ll just tell you that it never happened. I’m not sure it ever will, but it’s not because of any unwillingness to work hard, nor because of any lack of desire or physical limitations. It didn’t happen because this person wouldn’t get out of bed in time to get to the gym.

They didn’t realize that before earning any right to set mountainous goals, they would have to master a few simple habits. Let me tell you, it’s the little things that together boost you high enough to reach your biggest goals. If you tell me you want to move mountains but you set 4 alarms and sleep through 3 I don’t believe you. If you say you want to lose weight but your credit card statement shows fast food restaurants as your largest reoccurring expense, then your desire is false.
