105. On Pride

I played for the Columbia Valley Rockies in Invermere, British Columbia for the 2011/2012 hockey season. We were not a good team. In fact, we were the worst in the KIJHL. Going into our final game of the season, our record was 3 wins, 47 losses and 1 overtime loss. We were not fighting for the final playoff spot to say the least.

However, we were as amped as amped can be prior to that final slate against our frequent division opponent, the Fernie Ghostriders, who happened to be the best team in the league that year. The reason is because of what our coach said in his pregame speech, and it’s the reason I’m writing this today.

Before the game, Coach Ward reminded us that win or lose, our season was over. We had nothing to play for and the league knew it. That being the case, there was just one thing we could do to make our 4 hour bus trip to and from the game worth it.

We could show some pride.
